Express Yourself is an arts-immersion program for at-risk youth and young people with mental illness, designed to help move them from alienation to belonging.  With art as a springboard, they learn to express themselves in healthy, positive ways using a variety of creative means, and in the process, discover inner strengths and a sense of connection with others.

Every year, Express Yourself stages a year-end performance at the Wang Theater, in cooperation with the Department of Mental Health and other organizations.  This year’s show, ALIVE, was held May 31st and rocked the house (as usual).

Express Yourself youth, artists, guest artists and interns worked throughout the year creating every aspect of the show. They wrote music, developed ideas, created every piece of art on the stage, and danced together. More importantly they made new friends and learned how to work together toward a common goal.
