Assistant Secretary for Administration and Finance
Letter from Secretary Bigby:
I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Mary Cassesso as Assistant Secretary for Administration and Finance. An experienced executive with significant public and non-profit service, she will bring an extraordinary breadth of knowledge and experience to EOHHS. Mary currently serves as the Dean for Administration and Finance at Harvard University’s School of Dental Medicine, where, among other initiatives, she has served as the Chief Advisor to the Dean, responsible for all fiscal and administrative affairs including strategic and financial planning, human resources management, budget and accounting operations and information technology.
Previously, Mary was the Deputy Director at the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership and has extensive state and municipal experience from being the lead for Administration and Finance in the state’s office on housing; the Budget Director at the Division of Employment Security; and the City Auditor for the City of Somerville. She holds a Masters in Public Administration and undergraduate degree from Northeastern University.
The addition of Mary to our team will help to further strengthen our Secretariat. Upon recent review of the organizational structure in relation to mission of the Secretariat and the goals of the Administration, I decided that re-establishing the position of Assistant Secretary for Administration and Finance would be in the Secretariat’s best interests. Mary will report directly to me and will oversee all of the core administrative functions of the secretariat including the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Director of Human Resources, Director of the Office of Leasing and State Owned Property and the Director of Strategic Planning. In addition she will work directly with the Secretariat Chief Information officer to ensure that the IT structure best serves our agencies and goals. This new structure will instill a greater emphasis on the coordination, vision and planning among these important areas.
As part of this re-structuring, Mark Waterbury will take on the role of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Administration and Finance. The position of Chief Operating Officer has been eliminated. In his role, Mark will work closely with Assistant Secretary Cassesso to ensure that our administrative functions are closely aligned to advance our organization’s priorities and goals.
