Organization Description:

The mission of Doc Wayne Youth Services is to fuse sport and therapy to heal and strengthen at-risk youth. We expand access to evidence-based trauma-informed group therapy for students who have or are at high risk of developing social, emotional or behavioral challenges that can affect their development. Our community-based Chalk Talk® group therapy program is an adaption of the evidence-based model we first developed for youth in residential settings. Today, Doc Wayne serves 300 youth ages 5-18 each week with Chalk Talk® – delivered in schools, housing developments, and after-school programs. Youth who fail to progress in traditional “talk therapy” thrive in Chalk Talk® because it appeals to them as fun and challenging sports activities. Doc Wayne’s goals are to:

·     Serve as a partner to K-12 schools and youth serving organizations to address the mental health challenges in schools and improve social emotional core competencies

·     Reduce known barriers to accessing mental health care for students

·     Provide an integrated approach to mental health and social emotional learning (SEL) for students allowing them to successfully build their SEL core competencies under the care of a mental health clinician
