On January 15, the Governor proposed Emergency Assistance Family Shelter System policy changes which would push more children into a state of homelessness. While compromises are needed to sustain the system, children need adequate shelter with their families to prevent adverse outcomes and downstream problems.
The legislature must act quickly through approving a supplemental budget, as funds are expected to run out in early February. CLM wrote to our legislative leaders urging caution as they consider the effects of shelter system policy changes on children. For more details find our letter below.
