FACT SHEET: Key Data on Transition Age Youth

March 14, 2024

Transition age youth are young people between the ages of 18 and 22 years old who are in the process of leaving or who have left the child welfare system. 59% of young people exit the foster care system in Massachusetts, or "age out," without permanent, legal connections to family or caregivers.

Alongside CLM's Transition Age Youth Coalition, CLM developed the fact sheet below to inform our Members, state agency partners, advocacy organizations, and legislators on the adverse outcomes many transition-age youth and young adults face upon aging out of the child welfare system.
