Funds Restored for Children and Families in FY24 State Budget

October 6, 2023

On Thursday, October 5th, the Senate completed 24 overrides to Gov. Maura Healey's fiscal vetoes within the FY24 Budget, following action by the House last week. In total, the Legislature returned about $80 million back into the state's annual budget.

For the Children's League, the most notable restorations include $5,992,481 in funding for Family Resource Centers and $950,000 in funding for Children's Advocacy Centers, important investments in the ongoing support of children and families who are part of the Commonwealth's child welfare system.

Additional overrides restored funding to the Center-Based Child Care Rate Increase and Head Start Programs.

Thank you to our legislators at the Senate and House of Representatives for reallocating these funds back into FY24's state budget - the investment into these resources will go a long way to supporting the mental and physical well-being of children across the state. We call on our Members to reach out to their legislators and thank them on behalf of their organizations and the League.
