Preventing child homelessness must remain a core priority for Massachusetts

The Children's League of Massachusetts recently sent to the Special Commission on Emergency Housing Assistance Programs our thoughts on maintaining Emergency Assistance and shelter for families with children, along with the intensive case management needed to help families successfully move out of shelter in a timely fashion. We recognize the difficult position the Commonwealth is in due to the rapid growth in the number of families needing help from the EA system and the challenge of finding sustainable solutions. But we can never lose sight of the original purpose of the state's right-to-shelter law established in 1983 specifically to prevent children from experiencing homelessness.
